Cross-Border Commerce Europe publishes the fifth edition of “TOP 500 Fashion, Beauty & Luxury Cross-Border Retail Europe 2026”: the annual ranking dedicated to e-commerce, retail’s leading online sector.
Brussels, 10th September 2026 – Cross-Border Commerce Europe, the platform stimulating cross-border e-commerce in Europe, releases its latest research ranking the top online fashion, beauty and luxury retailers and marketplaces operating across Europe.
Key Fashion, Beauty & Luxury Market Figures
The European online Fashion, Beauty & Luxury market is entering a more mature and competitive phase. The 2026 TOP 500 ranking shows that established cross-border retailers are facing softer consumer spending, inflationary pressure and intensified price competition, while marketplaces, digital-first brands and re-commerce platforms continue to reshape the market.
The TOP 500 cross-border Fashion, Beauty & Luxury retailers and marketplaces generated €120 billion in total online turnover in 2025, of which €79 billion was generated through cross-border e-commerce. Cross-border sales therefore represented approximately 66% of TOP 500 turnover.
Across the EU27, the UK, Switzerland and Norway, the overall Fashion, Beauty & Luxury retail market was €635 billion in 2025, combining online and offline sales. Online sales represented approximately €185 billion, meaning that the TOP 500 accounted for around 65% of the total online market.
Fashion, Beauty & Luxury remains Europe’s largest e-commerce product category: 23% of all online product sales are generated by the sector. The number of companies included to calculate the TOP 500 ranking increased by 7.5%, underlining the continued attractiveness and competitiveness of the European cross-border market.
Looking ahead to 2026, the European online Fashion, Beauty & Luxury market is forecast to grow by 7% to approximately €198 billion. The TOP 500 is projected to reach €130 billion (+8%), including €87 billion in cross-border turnover (+10%), while marketplace GMV within the Top 500 is expected to increase to approximately €35 billion (+12%).
Marketplaces and Re-commerce
Marketplaces generated €31 billion in GMV in the 2026 TOP 500, representing a 39% share of the TOP 500 cross-border online market. C2C re-commerce and resale marketplaces are also strengthening their position, supported by consumer adoption of second-hand fashion, affordability considerations and growing demand for more sustainable and circular consumption models.
TOP 500 Cross-Border Fashion, Beauty & Luxury Retailers and Marketplaces
The ranking identifies leading cross-border players operating across 30 countries (EU27 + UK + Switzerland + Norway), primarily through B2C and C2C models. Key players include Amazon, Zalando, TEMU, Shein, SSENSE, Sinsay, eBay, AliExpress, Vinted, Notino, The Ordinary, CeraVe, Oriflame, Douglas, Sephora and E.L.F. Beauty.
Beauty Outperforms Fashion
One of the clearest developments in the European online market is the continued outperformance of Beauty compared with Fashion. Beauty benefits from repeat-purchase behavior, high consumer engagement, lower return rates and the success of specialized online players. Skincare, cosmetics and wellness continue to attract digitally engaged consumers, while beauty brands combine direct-to-consumer strategies, social communities and marketplace distribution to accelerate international growth.
Fashion faces greater pressure from changing consumer behavior, higher return rates, inventory challenges and intensified competition across price segments.
TOP 10 Rankings Fashion & Beauty
- Fashion: Amazon, Temu, eBay, Etsy, AliExpress, Vinted, Zalando, H&M, Adidas, Shein.
- Beauty: Notino, Douglas, Oriflame, DI, Sephora, Kiko Cosmetics, Weleda, L’Occitane, Garnier, Kérastase.
The Return of Brand Power and the Rise of Affordable Premium
After years of marketplace-driven expansion and performance-marketing competition, consumers are increasingly looking for authenticity, trust and emotional connection. Strong brands with clear positioning, distinctive identities and loyal communities are regaining influence. Digital-first brands such as Skims, Fenty Beauty and Rare Beauty illustrate how storytelling, creator partnerships and community-driven strategies can generate international demand.
At the same time, a new premium segment is emerging between mass-market affordability and traditional luxury. Affordable premium brands are capturing consumers seeking quality, design and perceived value at accessible price points, forcing established players to reconsider positioning, pricing and product innovation.
Luxury, Regulation and Sustainability
Luxury is showing renewed momentum after a challenging period. Brands are strengthening digital experiences and customer engagement while focusing on exclusivity, craftsmanship and heritage. The next phase of luxury growth will depend on balancing accessibility with desirability and maintaining brand prestige in an increasingly digital environment.
Regulation is becoming a defining factor in cross-border e-commerce. Sustainability requirements, product-transparency obligations and evolving European legislation are reshaping competition. Companies investing in traceability, responsible sourcing, circular models and transparent communication can turn regulatory requirements into sources of differentiation and consumer trust.
