Cross-border eCommerce: Belgium ranked 5th in EU

Top 16 countries for crossborder Commerce in Europe 2021In 2021, Belgium ranked fifth among European countries that are attractive from a consumer perspective in cross-border e-commerce – its consumers bought 37% more online abroad than in 2020.

At Cross-Border Commerce Europe, we surveyed the Top 16 strongest European countries, focusing on their cross-border performance from a consumer perspective.

Unsurprisingly, Luxembourg ranked in 1st position because leading platforms such as Zalando, Asos, Veepee, Fnac and Amazon (.de and .fr) are based there.

The rank of Belgium increased by two positions in 2021.

Belgium scores well for consumer confidence in online cross-border e-commerce, but this does not yet spontaneously translate into cross-border sales.

In 2021, Belgium generated a cross-border turnover of €5.5 billion, an increase of 37.5% compared to 2020, suitable for a market share of 35.5%.
